UTILITY GUIDES PAKISTANYour MEPCO bill is ready online before the paper copy reaches your door. Here's how to check it, understand every charge on it, and pay it — in under 2 minutes.
MEPCO (Multan Electric Power Company) covers 13 districts across South Punjab and supplies electricity to around 34 million people. If your address is in Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, or Pakpattan, your electricity bill comes from MEPCO.
Checking it online takes about 2 minutes. The official portal shows you the current amount, due date, units consumed, and the last 12 months of billing history. No registration, no app download, no waiting for the paper bill.
Step 1: Find your MEPCO reference number
You need 1 of 2 numbers: your 14-digit reference number or your 10-digit customer ID. Both are printed on every physical MEPCO bill you've received.

Your 14-digit reference number is in the top-left of your MEPCO bill, labeled REFERENCE NO.
The reference number sits in the top-left section, labeled REFERENCE NO. Your customer ID appears just above it. Either one works to check the bill online.
Lost your old bill? Use your CNIC
Go to the official MEPCO website, select the Search by CNIC option, enter your 13-digit national ID number, and your reference number comes up immediately. Use only the official MEPCO site for this. Your CNIC is sensitive data — don't enter it on random third-party bill-checking sites.
Save it once, use it forever
Once you have your reference number, save it in your phone contacts as "MEPCO Ref No." You'll never need to search for it again.
Step 2: Check your MEPCO bill online — official method
The official portal for MEPCO bill checking is bill.pitc.com.pk/mepcobill. This is the PITC (Pakistan Information Technology Company) portal that MEPCO runs through officially.
Here's the exact process:
Open bill.pitc.com.pk/mepcobill in any browser on your phone or computer
Enter your 14-digit reference number or 10-digit customer ID in the input box
Click the Check Bill button
Your current bill appears: amount payable, due date, units consumed, meter reading date
To save it, use your browser's print function and select "Save as PDF"
That's it. The PDF is accepted at any bank, JazzCash agent point, or Easypaisa outlet as a duplicate bill.
Bill not loading?
If the portal shows no bill, your current month's bill may not be generated yet. Wait 24 hours and try again. If it still doesn't load after that, call the MEPCO helpline at 118. Double-check your reference number first — one wrong digit stops it from loading.
Step 3: Understand what's on your MEPCO bill
Most people check the total amount and stop there. But if your bill jumped unexpectedly, you need to know which line caused it.
Check your physical electricity meter monthly. Compare the reading on your meter to the reading on your bill — any mismatch is grounds for a complaint.

MEPCO doesn't set most of these charges. It collects them on behalf of the government and NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority). If your FPA suddenly spiked, that's a federal fuel pricing decision, not a MEPCO billing error.
Why your bill might have jumped this month
3 things cause most surprise increases:
Slab rate crossing: Pakistan uses a tiered pricing model. Once you exceed a unit threshold (say, 200 units or 300 units), the rate per unit goes up for all units in that tier. One extra AC on a hot day can push you into a higher slab.
FPA increase: If global fuel prices rose last month, FPA adds to every bill in Pakistan, including yours.
Wrong meter reading: The meter reader made a mistake or estimated instead of reading. Compare your actual meter to the reading on the bill. If they don't match, file a complaint.
Step 4: Pay your MEPCO bill online

JazzCash and Easypaisa both support MEPCO bill payment directly from the app – no bank branch visit needed.
You have 4 main options for paying online:
JazzCash: Open the app → Pay Bills → Electricity → MEPCO → enter reference number → enter amount → confirm. Save the receipt.
Easypaisa: Same flow. Open app → Utility Bills → Electricity → MEPCO → reference number → amount → pay.
Mobile banking app: Most Pakistani bank apps (HBL Konnect, UBL Digital, Meezan, MCB, Bank Alfalah) have a Pay Bills section. Select MEPCO as the biller, enter your reference number, and pay.
Bank branch or MEPCO office: Still works. Take a printed or screenshot copy of your bill to any bank branch or MEPCO payment counter before the due date.
Always keep your payment receipt — digital screenshot, transaction ID, or printed slip. If a payment doesn't reflect on your account, that receipt is your proof.
Step 5: Set up SMS alerts so you never miss a due date
MEPCO offers an SMS alert service that texts you your bill amount and due date every month. To activate it, send a text message to 8334 with the format: PITC [space] your reference number.
So if your reference number is 12345678901234, you'd send: PITC 12345678901234 to 8334.
You'll get a confirmation SMS. After that, MEPCO texts you every billing cycle. No app, no website — just a message telling you what's due and when.
Which districts does MEPCO cover?
MEPCO supplies electricity to these 13 districts of South Punjab:

If your area isn't on this list, your electricity provider is a different DISCO: LESCO (Lahore), FESCO (Faisalabad), PESCO (Peshawar), or HESCO (Hyderabad). Each has its own online bill portal.
How to reduce your MEPCO bill
A few habits make a real difference:
Shift to off-peak hours: Run your washing machine, water pump, and iron before 6 PM or after 10:30 PM. Peak hours (6:30 PM to 10:30 PM in summer) carry a higher per-unit rate on TOU meters.
Set the AC to 26°C: Every degree below 26°C increases power consumption by roughly 8%. That's one of the fastest single changes you can make.
Replace tube lights with LEDs: A standard 40W tube light uses 4 times more electricity than an equivalent LED. Multiply that across 5-6 rooms and the saving is significant.
Check your meter monthly: Take a photo of the reading on the same date each month. If the bill's reading doesn't match your photo, you have grounds for a correction complaint.
Unplug devices on standby: TVs, phone chargers, and set-top boxes left plugged in draw power even when not in use. 10 to 15 devices on standby can add 15 to 20 units a month.
How to file a MEPCO bill complaint
If your bill shows an incorrect meter reading, unexpected charges, or the amount is clearly wrong, don't just pay it. You have 2 options:
Call 118: MEPCO's official helpline operates 24/7. Tell them your reference number and describe the issue. They'll log a complaint and give you a complaint number. Keep it.
Visit your nearest MEPCO Subdivision Office: Bring your CNIC, a photo of your meter reading, and a copy of the disputed bill. For billing errors like wrong meter readings, a subdivision office visit usually gets it corrected faster than phone complaints.
You can also reach MEPCO on their official helpline UAN at 0800-63726 (toll-free) or through the CCMS (Complaint and Consumer Management System) portal linked on the official MEPCO website.

Where is the MEPCO reference number on my bill? ▼
Your 14-digit reference number is in the top-left section of any physical MEPCO bill, labeled REFERENCE NO. Your 10-digit customer ID appears just above it.
Can I check my MEPCO bill without an old bill? ▼
Yes. Visit mepco.com.pk, select Search by CNIC, enter your 13-digit national ID number, and your reference number appears. Use that to check your bill. Only use the official MEPCO site for CNIC-based searches.
Can I pay my MEPCO bill online? ▼
Yes. Pay via JazzCash, Easypaisa, or any Pakistani mobile banking app. Open the app, go to Pay Bills, select MEPCO, enter your reference number, enter the amount, and confirm. Always save the transaction receipt.
What is FPA on my MEPCO bill? ▼
FPA is Fuel Price Adjustment. It is added when the actual cost of generating electricity in a given month is higher than the base reference rate. NEPRA sets it — MEPCO just collects it. If global fuel prices rise, FPA goes up. If they fall, you get a benefit.
What are MEPCO peak hours in 2026? ▼
In summer (April to October), peak hours are 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. In winter (November to March), peak hours run 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Running ACs, water pumps, and washing machines outside these hours reduces your monthly bill on TOU meters.
